Celebrating the life of
Mildred Swinney Wester
Passed away on March 26, 2023

Mildred Swinney Wester passed from this life into heaven on March 26, 2023, after a short stay
in hospice. Born March 18, 1938, in Rockmart, Georgia, to Nettie Reeves Swinney and Lewis
Render Swinney, she grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia, and Savannah, Georgia, graduating
from Savannah High School in 1956. She worked in the Women, Infants, and Children program
(WIC), and retired from Gulfstream Aerospace in 1993, but her favorite job was as a preschool
teacher. She taught at Memorial Day School and Tiponi Preschool, which she helped to found.
Mildred was a bright spirit with a resilient optimism. She was an encourager, and listened
without judgment, seeing the best in each person and situation she encountered. She loved her
family fiercely, and was a loyal and trusted friend to many. She served in her church’s food
pantry, delivering groceries to homebound seniors, and as a greeter for worship services. She
had the gift of hospitality, and enjoyed making her home a welcoming space for many
individuals and groups over the years.
Mildred was a lover of nature and animals, values instilled in her during her time as a Girl Scout,
where she earned the Curved Bar, the organization’s highest award. She and her husband,
Morel, loved camping and bird watching, and they had many special fur babies over the years,
the most important one being her dog, Georgia, who was her constant companion toward the
end of her life.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Ramsey; daughter, Cindy Winter (Scott Selfridge); son, Jeff
Winter; stepdaughters, Kathy Miller (Joe) and Karen Luke (Brick). Other significant family
members include Ned and Sandee Winter; Wes and Kim Winter; and their children, Kyndall,
Keeley, and Karsyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Morel Wester.
